In this article, we will share our experiences about “Oligo Asteno Terato Sperm” syndrome, which is known as OAT.
Oligo refers to low sperm count, Asteno refers to low sperm movement, Terato refers to low sperm morphology and genetic quality. When all three come together, it is defined as OAT syndrome (when translated from English to Turkish, it is called OAT syndrome). Sometimes only number, sometimes only movement, sometimes only morphology or some of them can be mixed. OAT describes the most severe combination of all three. Mild, moderate OAT and severe and severe OAT syndromes have also been defined.
Note that here the cell exists as a mature sperm. Until the sperm exists, the other cells in the intermediate step details also exist in some way.
How do we treat?

As in all cases, the OAT case should be thoroughly investigated in terms of organic, anatomical, functional and genetic aspects. Occupation and exposure are very important. Autoimmune diseases are also considered in this context. Early miscarriages due to poor sperm quality are caused by chromosomal disorders.
In the treatment, we start by testing the antioxidant capacity of the sperm or by the normal classical method. If the number is seriously low, hormonal treatment is added. However, it is important to know that while sperms with normal structure increase, sperms with abnormal structure also increase.
